To Launch the 2010 Dorset Food Week there will be a local food market in Dorchester town centre on the 23rd October, starting at 9.00am.
Featuring over 50 local producers and businesses, the market will take over the entire town centre offering loads to taste, try and buy. There will be something for everyone, whether you want to pick up a joint for a great tasting Sunday lunch or treat friends and families with a few delicious goodies.
While you are enjoying browsing the shops and stalls, taking centre stage on Street Eat day is the demonstration kitchen. Located at the junction of South Street, and SouthWalks Road, it will feature great local chefs who will entertain you and maybe even inspire you to buy, cook, and taste some of the seasonal produce available at the market.
The day starts with Kim Newman Wood, food writer and finalist of ITV’s Britain’s Best Dish, showing how painless cooking can be when you have a glass of Champagne in your hand. This will be followed by Matt Follas who also came to fame on TV, winning Master Chef in 2009. Matt’s restaurant, The Wild Garlic in Beaminster is rapidly building a following for his innovative use of local ingredients.
If you missed Lee Morton’s butchery demonstrations at The Dorset County Show, then you have to come along. However if you’re a bit squeamish or a vegetarian then it might be time to browse some of the market stalls.
Michael Michaud from Peppers By Post and Nid of Thai Cooking For You will show you how, with a little help from some exotic flavours, you can create international dishes using as many local ingredients as possible.
We will have local cooking back with us with Jeff the Chef and Nick from Forkingout two great teachers who have worked together for over 10 years, giving easy pointers and great recipes that everyone can replicate at home with ease.
Finally Russell Brown from Sienna’s in Dorchester will be cooking dishes that showcase his talent, and demonstrate why he and his restaurant have been awarded the first Michelin Star in the county for 22 years.
