‘MAKE AND MUNCH’ SESSIONS FOR PARENTS AND SMALL CHILDREN
LAUNCH IN LYME REGIS TO MARK DORSET FOOD WEEK
To mark Dorset Food Week later this month, Mums and Dads of young children who would like to cook healthier and delicious meals for the family but are unsure how to start are invited to a series of free cooking and tasting mornings in Lyme Regis. The ‘Make and Munch’ sessions, run by local charity Health and Local Food for Families (HALFF), based in Axminster, launch with a one-off pizza making and eating morning at InSPARation Youth Cafe, Church Street, Lyme Regis, Tuesday 26th October, 10.30 - 12am. Six further free 'Make and Munch' session begin the following Wednesday, 3rd November, in the Baptist Church Hall, Silver Street (opposite the cinema), 10.15am-12.45pm. Led by experienced cooks and nutritionists, the cookery and tasting mornings are designed to be both informal and fun for parents and children alike, and offer a chance to catch up with old friends and make new ones. Everyone gets together to prepare and cook a range of simple and tasty recipes, including main meals, desserts and snacks, and then sit down together at the end to eat what they have made. There will be plenty of toys and other activities provided to keep the children happy and parents will also be able to take away easy-to-follow recipes ideas to try at home. HALFF has secured funding to help parents of babies and toddlers up to three years old in East Devon, West Dorset and South Somerset, particularly those who have little confidence or experience of cooking, to prepare simple healthy, family-friendly food using affordable local produce. Tiggy Parry, Director of HALFF, says: “Many of the increasing problems we have with children’s health such as obesity are due to parents relying on processed foods full of sugars and salt because they believe healthy, seasonal food is difficult, boring or expensive. “The good news is that doesn’t’t have to be the case. You don’t have to give up all your favourite dishes, become a master chef or be well off to provide the family with a tasty balanced diet.”

Dorset Wildlife Trust
Kingcombe Meadows Nature Reserve lies in the valley of the River Hooke near Maiden Newton and is nationally renowned for its wildlife interest. You may recognise the name from this years BBC Spring Watch; Simon King filmed from Kingcombe Meadows and recognised its unique appeal, quote “Kingcombe feels unchanged, full of history and natural legacy, and all alongside man”
The Reserve boasts 180 hectares of grassland and woodlands, forming a patchwork of fields broken up by thick hedges, streams, ponds and ancient green lanes. With over 400 different kinds of flowers, ferns and grasses the meadows need careful management; to achieve this we follow conservation grazing principles utilising native breeds of cattle and sheep. Our beef and lamb are integral to our farming system and exclusively graze Kingcombe Meadows to preserve the abundance of wildflowers and grasses.
As a special promotion we will be selling Kingcombe Meadows Lamb at Framptons of Bridport throughout Dorset Food Week, as part of this Dorset Wildlife Trust will be leading a guided walk around Kingcombe Meadows on Sunday the 24th October at 3pm. The walk will give a unique insight into the management of Kingcombe Meadows and how your Sunday Roast can help Dorset’s Wildlife!

Wyld Meadow Lamb
Wyld Meadow Farm is set in beautiful West Dorset, part of Thomas Hardy’s Wessex that inspired the great writer and poet. Our family has farmed sheep here using traditional methods for generations. We take great pride and care in our animals and their welfare is of the utmost importance. All our sheep and beef are reared naturally, grazing on prime Dorset meadowland and they live on a chemical free diet.
Most of our sheep are Poll Dorset which can breed at anytime of the year. This means that our own fresh Dorset lamb is available throughout the year. Our beef herd is Aberdeen Angus crossed onto a Devon.
Here at Wyld Meadow we produce a high quality, full flavoured lamb and beef which is extremely tender.
Our lamb is hung for 1 week and our beef a minimum of three weeks to enhance its quality and flavour, then professionally prepared into selected joints and cuts by a master butcher. It is then vacuum packed and labelled.

Bridport Farmers’ Market
This Saxon market town is situated on the picturesque coast road to Exeter. The traditional manufacture of ropes, twine and netting is still carried on here – in addition to supplying most of the cordage for the Fleet in earlier times, the town also provided the hangmans’ ropes which gave rise to the phrase ‘a Bridport dagger’. The wide main streets afford attractive views of the surrounding hills, the magnifi cent coastline and agricul tural land around. The highly successful regular Farmers’ Market is held in the Arts Centre on the second Saturday each month and in recent years has been voted ‘ Best Farmers’ Market in Dorset’. The market regularly attracts 30 producers selling their wares including Hugh Fearnly-Whittingstall from his nearby River Cottage HQ. “the 2nd Saturday of each month,
